Berliner Geschichten: Das Leben der Anderen (2006)

Hoezo in Kino

A modern masterpiece of psychological drama and emotional storytelling, this thriller about a Stasi officer getting too involved with his surveillance target perfectly conveys the vice grip with which the intelligence apparatus controlled everyday life in Eastern Germany. The beige and grey Machine of the Stasi gets a human face thanks to great performances by the cast and a fine screenplay that never fades into the unbelievable.
